Subject: #aon.pickup
OK, you know by now that I play Counter-Strike. Well, one of the worst things about the game is playing on public servers with idiots. Have you ever thought "I could do with playing in a real match-type game"????
Well, wait no more. Fire up your IRC tool and follow the instructions below.
For those of you interested, the whole thing has been created by our leader, Rav, who can be contacted in #clan.aon in IRC. He's a talented bunny. Give him a(nother) job.
#AoN.pickup what is that all about then?
You know those times when you want a game of CS? Those when times you can't face going onto a public server and suffering the noobiness. What you really, really, really want is a clan match but :-
* Your clanmates aren't around
* Those that are can't organise a clan war on cs_pissup
* You are not in a clan
* You have turned up late for a clan war and, in the absence of anything else to do are now refreshing your server browser and typing the commentary into IRC
Well there is an answer, straight from the hard disk and fevered mind of Rav Industries.
OK, enough of the sales pitch hows it work?
First off you join IRC channel #aon.pickup. This might cause you to have to break off any text commentaries.
Then, once in you type "!addme" in the channel. Yes, you guessed it, without the quotes but with the exclamation mark. OK i am joined and added now what?
Well, like sex, CS is better with someone else. Unless they insist on the rubber outfit, the ballgag and putting you in a cellar. But i digress.
What you now do is wait. For the children of the MTV era this means being patient. You can always try and find a good gimp outfit on eBay to pass the time.
Eventually 9 of your friends* will also add themselves to the war. The bot will pick sides and then PM you with the server password and start the match.
* these players will substitute for friends in this scenario, however i cannot guarantee they will lend you money or their sister like a real friend.
Join the CS server using the details the bot has given you and wait. Once everyone has joined, the server will go into warm up mode and changes players names for their new impromptu clans (Team A or, you guessed again, Team B).
Warm up mode, that sounds complicated!
Indeed, remember we are playing an impromptu clan match here. MR12 (ask your parents) and all that nice stuff. However the other guys on your team don't know about your awesome awping skills at the doors on Aztec and might misinterpret it for blocking, alternatively they might not give you cover when you run out into four enemies with a scout.
So, for two minutes you and your friends* will stand around and discuss tactics. Or more likely type useful thing like "why can't i run", "i am stuck" "gimp outfits only £20, no reserve" and so on. But these two minutes are your best chance to discuss who exactly is going where with the AWP.
Once the two minutes are up you will be into the war. For those new to such things this will be as follows:
The match will consist of 24 three minute rounds split into two halves of (well done again) 12 rounds. At the end of the first 12 rounds the server will swap the players to the opposite side to play the second half. At the start of the second round will also be a 2 minute "tactics discussion session" - or "jumpy type silly things session" if you are a noob.
At the end of the match the server will display the overall score as text chat and you are free to leave.
Anything else i should remember?
* If you have added to bot in #aon.pickup, remember to join the server using the details (IP and password etc) that the bot PMs you with in IRC.
* If you change your mind about playing, type "!removeme" and the bot will do as bidded.
* If you join the match server remember to play. Not go AFK
* Try and play as a team, use voice comms and try to avoid playing as a one man army
That sounds excellent, how do i get involved?
When in IRC join #aon.pickup.
What is a good price for a gimp outfit?
Go to anywhere in the West Country and ask anyone with a moustache, they will know.
